About APASA at UCSF

The Asian Pacific American Systemwide Alliance (APASA) at UCSF was founded in 1988 to address issues impacting the Asian American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander (AANHPI) community, to promote professional and social connections and the diverse cultural heritage of all Asian communities for all members of the UCSF community. At APASA, we are champions for equity, inclusion, and justice.

Driven by Purpose: We volunteer our time to initiate, support, and advocate for meaningful change.

Building Community and Belonging: Through cultural events, inspiring speakers, interactive workshops, and leadership programs, we foster belonging, wellness, and professional growth.

Promote Education & Growth: Our programming encompasses anti-racism education, professional development, wellness, and health equity.

Engaged in Action and Advocacy: We meet monthly, collaborate with UCSF leadership, and build alliances with other UCSF organizations to advocate for equity and representation.

APASA is committed to progressing diversity, equality, and representation at UCSF. Our work is critical because AANHPI communities are not a monolith—we are a diverse, multifaceted group with unique challenges and experiences. This work matters because:

  • The AANHPI population in the U.S. exceeds 22 million, making up ~7% of the total population of our country.
  • Nearly half (45%) of U.S. Asians live in the West, with 30% residing in California alone.

  • At UCSF, AANHPI individuals make up ~38% of faculty, staff, and learners (Fall 2023)—yet systemic barriers and disparities persist, including among AANHPI groups.

AANHPI representation matters. Our advocacy shapes policies and opportunities and the future of our community at UCSF and beyond.

Join us in driving change and making an impact!
