Thank you for this wonderful and friendly event!
I loved hearing about Traditional Chinese Medicine. It was presented very digestible (no pun intended) and it has inspired me to incorporate more vegetables into my and my family's diet, and other balancing foods for our health. (Also inspired me to keep up with family traditions and make tonic soups for my family!)
Chef Lan made it look so easy to make rolls and that definitely inspires me to make some.
2 weeks is too short to be able to make it events!
The event was amazing. All organizers, facilitators, speakers, and panelists brought their vulnerability and willingness to share and connect in a truly courageous conversation. It was wonderful to be at a venue that was so warm and welcoming and the event seemed to end just as we were getting warmed up! I can't wait for the next one.
There was so many memorable moments: warm greetings, inspirational cards, leis, meeting new people. Listening and receiving great stories from all who spoke, Tiffany, Wai Lee, Jenn, Denny, Joe, Frances, and Tiffany! It was soul filling, and I wish it would’ve gone on for hours. I felt leaving there with a more strength of community. Jenn Chan has a special way of of making you feel safe and heard, which in turn makes you feel confident!
Cesar is a master storyteller, and made his journey both very specific and personal, yet at the same time very universal -- so impressive!!
I want to express my deeply gratitude to Tiffani Chan, Michelle Teng and Sam Yee. They created a welcoming and friendly space for our AAPI community with various events. And I got connected with the amazing traditional culture which helps me understand my body and my mind better.
Ed's family story and insights were eye opening. Struggling with parenting teens and this webinar just what I needed to lead me in the right direction.
I appreciated hearing the experiences of the panel members. I was especially touched and humbled by the experiences of those who are, or whose parents were, immigrants and refugees. Also, it was just a lovely event full of warmth and community!
I loved being able to do yoga in the middle of the day and the instructor was phenomenal as well as the facilitator. I left inspired and I felt a sense of community with all my other boxes on screen.
I loved meeting other people from many campuses and the gardens were beautiful. The walk wasn't as challenging as I was worried it would be.
It was great to have this topic addressed and to hear other's stories. I would love for there to be future sessions like this.
5 people were particularly memorable. The most memorable was Selena Chan because she was very warm and friendly and she made me feel welcomed at the events on the Koret Quad on May 2. The next 2 memorable people are Janice Mao and Helen Ye because they relayed information in a very personable and relatable way when showing and talking about the different props and explaining their uses during the “Touch” event on April 30. And, last but not least, Jane Jih and Evelyn Ho because their presentation was excellent, with a lot of information given and open-minded insights provided, and they (INC) have done so much to advance the integration of Chinese and Western medicine.
I enjoyed learning about the different meditations with different focuses! I've already shared about them with friends!
Dr. Villanueva's advice for how to handle anxiety in the moment were extremely helpful. Acupressure points and breathing exercises are excellent tools for modulating one's response to stress. Dr. Villanueva also created a nurturing environment to learn and ask questions, which I very much appreciated.
Having these activities really draw you in to the community and allows you to recognize events in a whole new light not only in the month of May.
The event was interactive, eliciting the use of our senses as well as talking with other participants to share our reactions. The presenters are experts in their fields, but rather than lecturing us, they responded to our questions and comments in both events. It was a delightful learning experience which introduced me to tofu noodles, longan, and sliced potatoes as well as the delicious cuisine of Dumpling Story.
This session really validates and acknowledges the Pilipinx experience and I really appreciated it. While the idea of Ginhawa is new to me, the content was accessible and familiar, which allowed for personal reflection and reconnection to ourselves in an institution that doesn't typically acknowledge or recognize us in our identities. Speaking our truths even when our voice shakes is so resonate. I've lived most of my life feeling scared, or unable to trust, or hiding under imposed narratives. Sessions like these remind us, we don't need permission to be our authentic selves.
I want to take a moment to say thank you to you for arranging the AAPI events within our UCSF community. I really appreciate your energy and thoughtfulness when you created this welcoming space for our AAPI community.
I am looking forward to participating in more events with you and your team.
Thanks again for your efforts and passion to make these wonderful events happen.
I am so thankful for the opportunity to know our AAPI community and learn from each other. I am eager to share my pictures with my colleagues and friends.
Thanks again for your time and support! We are so blessed to have you as our excellent community leader.
Look forward to seeing you at the next community events!
It was very exciting to participate in this tradition activity. It inspired me to think about how to connect with my body and my mind deeply. I really appreciate you to bring this special event to our AAPI community. I am very thankful for Sifu Alex Cardenas' passion and patience. Hopefully we can see him again for another event within our community.
With my particular medical condition, it’s hard to sit up straight. And as we were doing that, there were moments where I found almost little popping feeling, and it was suddenly more comfortable to sit upright than it was to slouch like I usually do, to deal with the pain. So I found that very inspiring.
It transported me really quickly. And I felt like I was—I mean, I don’t have this experience—but I felt like I was in a monastery with other people, like humming or, you know, like a, you know, singing bowls sort of thing, like it was my own quick sound healing experience or something. Yeah, and I don’t have a reference point. This is just sort of—but it felt good. Thank you.
A little hard. I have to be careful not to over stimulate my nervous system. I had to go a lot slower, but my spirit was going twice as fast.
It was calming and just going with the flow of your guiding.
The tension in my head like lightened up, lighter headache. Thank you.
Similar to the internal divine sound of Om. Yes, definitely has a feel of that. And the throat chakra opened up for the first time I hummed. It was quiet, wonderful.
This event was simply lovely. One of the only things I've done which lowered my Chronic Pain instead of increasing it.
The presentation was unique in that Dr. Prathikanti gave a foundation for the three Aryuvedic types followed by breathing exercises and postures for each type led by Yumi. I appreciated the breath work which is often neglected in other classes. The experience nurtured equanimity. It was held in a beautiful yoga studio. A most memorable experience.
Karen set a wonderful, welcoming tone infused the entire event with loveliness and healing energy. Thank you, Karen!!
I appreciated the storytelling the speaker shared. I enjoyed interaction within the presentation that allowed us to chat with peers and engage with the oils/scents provided.
Tiffany's story as a new parent, and the challenges living between modern American life vs. traditional/cultural practices and traditions- they can be contradicting. Really opened my eyes/years, thank you!
Enjoyed the heartwarming ginger and hibiscus tea prepared by Verma, and the tasty Filipino snacks that invoked nostalgia.
Ed Center was absolutely fabulous! Ed's shared story was positively impactful and appropriate for mental health awareness month. Thank you!
It was great to hear about this important study UCSF is starting and how I can get involved. The facilitators all seemed passionate about the study and very willing to answer questions.
Truly, a celebration! The Dumplings and Pulse of East Asian Medicine were a delightful learning experience. I saw your creative and intentional choices in so many aspects of the event from the large tropical leaf on the table top to the bamboo tongs (instead of chopsticks), reading suggestions, dim sum key chain, and the inviting displays of ingredients and dumplings. The event was interactive, eliciting the use of our senses as well as talking with other participants to share our reactions.
